Hunting in Seefeld in Tyrol

In our high mountain area it is possible for everyone, even older hunters, to experience a wonderful hunt. Our hunting ground is very well developed and easily accessible by Tyrolean standards. Our own hunting ground is located in Reith bei Seefeld with 2,500 ha. The Reither hunting ground borders directly on the village of Seefeld. You can therefore watch your chamois from your window. Furthermore, there is a good cooperation with various other hunting grounds on the Seefeld plateau, which increases our flexibility and enables you to choose from an extremely wide range.

Chamois

Chamois prefer to inhabit rocky areas and more difficult-to-access open spaces above the timberline up to about 3,000 m altitude. The diurnal species is ideally adapted to life in the high mountains, changing from short summer hair to dense winter hair and possessing horny shells that provide support when climbing.

Roe deer

The diurnal roe deer prefers forest edge zones and sparsely wooded areas and is considered the smallest deer species. Roe deer are characterised by their slender build, long legs and relatively small hooves. Only male roe bucks wear antlers, which they shed between October and December.

Red deer

With a body weight of 300 kilograms and a shoulder height of 1.50 metres, red deer are among the largest deer species. The species, which is both diurnal and nocturnal, wears a reddish-brown coat in the summer months and a brown-grey coat in the winter months and organises itself in herds.

Divers

In the Galtür hunting area you can also hunt capercaillie and black grouse, both of which belong to the grouse family with their feathered feet, as well as marmots. The latter are one of the largest rodents and are extremely agile despite their stocky bodies. Although they are diurnal, they spend 90% of their lives underground.

Details about the precinct

Reith is a municipality with 1367 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2020) in the district of Innsbruck Land in Tyrol (Austria). The municipality is situated at the foot of the 2374 m high Reither Spitze on the southern edge of the Seefeld plateau, above the Inn valley, from where a road connection leads over the Zirler Berg. The municipal area includes the settlements of Auland, Gschwandt, Krinz, Leithen, Mühlberg and the Haufendorf Reith. The name, which dates back to the High Middle Ages, refers to clearing activity, the name meaning something like “cleared place”. The extraction of stone oil has been documented since 1350. It is processed into remedies at the Maximilianshütte ichthyol plant.

Reith is a two-season tourist resort in the Seefeld holiday region. Leithen and Reith are stops on the Mittenwaldbahn.
